Mijn exemplaar is ook aangekomen.

 

Het boek is verschrikkelijk!

Ik krijg er voortdurend zin van om mijn stripverzameling uit te breiden!

 

Wat kun je erover zeggen?

Dat soort boeken is zo rijk gestoffeerd, dat het nog tientallen jaren een standaardwerk zal blijven. Ik zie het nog niet zo gauw overgedaan worden. De dankbetuiging vermeldt tientallen namen. Dat zegt al genoeg.

De lijst dankbetuigingen verenigt heel verschillende mensen, waarvan sommigen zeker tegengestelde meningen hebben.

Ik sta er trouwens ook tussen, wat me veel plezier doet, maar me ook een beetje hindert bij het recenseren. Moet ik het nu overal kraken? ;)

Dat is eerder Nederlands/Brits. Ik denk niet dat er echt een link is met een Belgische scenarist/tekenaar

Naar mijn gevoel gaat het wel breder.

Het vertrekt van de Belgische scenaristen en tekenaars, maar aangezien zij vaak met niet-Belgen hebben samengewerkt, worden ook niet-Belgen besproken, zoals Rosinski.

Veel niet-Belgen zijn als stripmaker langs België gepasseerd, zoals Andreas, die hier een deel van zijn opleiding kreeg, en in Spirou/Robbedoes en Tintin/Kuifje publiceerde. Dus worden ook dat soort mensen besproken. Het is trouwens dankzij Tintin/Kuifje dat Andreas kon doorbreken. Zonder dat blad was hij een marginaal figuur gebleven.

Maar met Marten Toonder ligt het wat anders: hij werd hier wel gelezen, en ook gepubliceerd in Het Laatste Nieuws, maar verder is the Belgian Connection van Marten Toonder altijd beperkt gebleven. Idem met Franka, die dankzij Spirou/Robbedoes ook bij Franstaligen bekend is (en waarvan het laatste plaatje van het eerste album zelfs een knipoog is naar Hergé's Kuifje), maar het werd nooit specifiek voor België gemaakt.

Het boek behandelt dus niet alleen de Belgische stripmakers, maar tot op zekere hoogte de hele Belgische stripcultuur. Daardoor is het wel moeilijk om keuzes te maken. Het vroegere Mickey Magazine wordt bijv. niet behandeld, netzomin als het blad De Flintstones, of Superman en Batman, die hier ook al voor WOII cirkuleerden.

Het is altijd moeilijk kiezen.

Misschien is dat stof voor een tweede deel?

Het lijkt me eerder te vertrekken van Belgische uitgevers en publicaties. En daarna komen de tekenaars en scenaristen.

 

Ha neen, hé, "ultieme naslagwerk" is ultiem. Hierna mag er niets meer gepubliceerd worden!

 

Een versie waarin de kleine onvolkomenheden en foutjes weggewerkt worden mag hopelijk nog wel?

Maar als er geen nieuwe versie meer mag komen, mogen er natuurlijk ook geen nieuwe strips meer gepubliceerd worden. Anders blijft dat naslagwerk niet volledig.

Ging GDW niet elke 10 jaar een update verzorgen?

Ging GDW niet elke 10 jaar een update verzorgen?

 

Deze nieuwe is eigenlijk een update van een boek van 10 jaar geleden t.g.v. 175 jaar België in 2005. Dus tot nu toe doet hij dat.

Lt. Uhura picked up an odd signal from the third planet of a yellow, medium star in quadrant 45.42.47.

I told her to home in on it and find out what it actually meant, as it could always have been an emergency signal from a ship from the Federation.

To my surprise she have a high shriek, pulled of her headphones, after which all our screens went black.

Our Scientific Officer Mr. Spock logged in to the data files, while I called Dr. Bones to attend to Lt. Uhura.

Mr. Spock raised his eyebrow, as the situation seemed a tick illogical, and told me that all the man-machine interfaces of the computer were off line, whereas Scotty could guarantee us that all communication antennes were fully active, aimed at the third planet, and the energy sensors showed a high level of current consumption from the antennes and the leads to our databanks.

"Captain, there is only one logical explanation," Mr. Spock told us - still only one eyebrow lifted, "we are under attack by a sentient being sending us huge amounts of information, thereby cutting of all our attempts to read the databanks, and filling those databanks at an enormous rate. Even the ships operational logs are unreachable. It this situation goes on too long, we might find ourselves adrift in space without any means of navigation."

I nodded and said to Scotty: "Scotty, can you give us a huge energy boast to pull the ship out of reach of that data source?"

"Nay Captain," Scotty said, "as I don't have access to the computers, I also don't have any access to the steering system."

"Isn't there a way to do it manually?" I asked, as a last resort.

"Well, Captain, manual steering of the ship is a possibility, but I'll have to send somebody to the engine bay to disconnect the computer connections to make a manual overide possible, so that the computer doesn't try to override the manual commands. The problem is that we don't know which lines are actually used by the computer because we can't read the files about the ships structure."

"That is logical, Captain," Mr. Spock said. "All communication and data logging is occupied by this information burst."

The only thing which gave me a bit of comfort, was that Mr. Spock still only lifted one eyebrow. At least the situation wasn't illogical. Yet.

"The only way to find out what this information anomaly causes," Mr. Spock continued, "is to find out the nature of that information. Some sentient being might try to communicate with us."

"Yes, Jim," Dr. Bones said, "it's probably life, but not as we know it."

I nodded. "Let's try to decode the information stream on the fly while it's streaming over our communication channels. Lt. Uhura, can you do that?"

Luckily Dr. Bones had concluded after a carefull interpretation of the tweets and beeps on his medical devices that Lt. Uhura was fit for service, and she said. "Yes, we can."

"Ok, then, put it on the big screen, Lt."

"Yes, sir."

The main screen of the command deck went to black, bleeped, showed some colourfull whizzing streaks and finally builded up an image.

"What the heck is that?" I said.

A diverse collection of drawings of seemingly intelligent and animalistic lifeforms filled the screen, spewing out huge amounts of curls and dashes.

Mr. Spock raised both eyebrows. I knew we were lost.

Wat was eigenlijk de functie van Yves Doumont? Hij wordt in het dankwoord als eindredacteur vermeld, maar elders heb ik zijn naam nog niet gevonden. Ik dacht dat hij verantwoordelijk was voor de Franse versie, maar ik weet niet zeker of er een Franse versie is.

Weet iemand er iets meer van?
